About Pain Treatment Center

The Pain Treatment Center staff offer treatment for people experiencing acute or chronic pain in many areas.

Dr. Knutson, Dr. Boutrous, Dr. Carlson and the staff are committed to working with the patient’s primary care physician to relieve pain and improve function. We offer precision diagnosis and treatment of persistent pain using fluoroscopy to see the size, shape, and structure of the patient’s internal bony structures. This allows us to deposit small doses of medication directly onto specific anatomic structures, aiding in the diagnosis and treatment of pain. If pain relief occurs, the injected structure may be identified as the “pain generator,” and future injection therapy, physical therapy, or

Ron Knutson, M.D.

Dr. Knutson, a North Dakota native, attended the University of North Dakota as an undergraduate and for medical school. He completed Anesthesiology residency at the University of Iowa in 1989, is Board-certified in Anesthesiology, and has extensive experience and training in advanced pain diagnosis and treatment.

Attas Boutrous II, M.D.

Dr. Boutrous, a North Dakota native, attended the University of North Dakota as an undergraduate and for medical school. He completed Anesthesiology residency at the University of Iowa in 1993, and is Board-certified in Anesthesiology with extensive training and experience in pain diagnosis and treatment.

Hugh Carlson, M.D.

Dr. Carlson, a South Dakota native, attended the University of South Dakota as an undergraduate and for medical school. He completed Anesthesiology residency at the University of Iowa in 1992. Dr. Carlson has been practicing
Anesthesiology and Pain Management in Bismarck since then. He is Board-certified in Anesthesiology with extensive training and experience in pain diagnosis and treatment.

Lori Klabunde, P.A.

Lori Klabunde is a Physician Assistant specializing in the evaluation and management of painful musculoskeletal conditions. She is a North Dakota native, a graduate of the University of North Dakota’s School of Nursing and Physician
Assistant Program.
